Job Description
SUMMARY: The Press Operator is responsible for the preparation and operation of four-color and six-color lithographic lines, trailing coater, and U.V. drying ovens. Must be the site leader in living and driving the Company Core Values and High-Performance Work Culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for assigned production schedules. Must be able to interpret orders with special setups and procure necessary press plates, inks, color samples and other necessary supplies
Responsible for setting up complete press in very close tolerances (.001″); including mechanical gauging, setting of press plates, blanket, ink and water rollers when necessary
Responsible for the function of the complete line of equipment as well as feeder and stacker personnel
Use equipment such as automatic stacker, feeder, coater, drying oven exidizer, bundle turner, hand tools and tape measure
Responsible for posting production jobs into the company CSI system accurately and timely
Handle coating materials and wash-up solvents
Trains and directs personnel assigned to his/her line of equipment
Indicates during runs spoiled sheets that are to be either “kept separate” or discarded as spoilage
Adjust and check U.V. oven settings for correct cure and checks this during run
Adjusts register and develops correct lay and color for supervisor’s approval
Responsible for the maintenance of lithographic work of the highest quality, with correct color and registry in an efficient and cost-effective manner (This requires constant highly skilled attention)
Responsible for checking sheets at discharge end for proper curing, color control and ensuring that ink and water fountains are supplied
Accumulates all required color samples of new jobs or replacement samples of repeat jobs for files
Check recorded information on completed work orders for correct sheetage and size, etc.
Responsible for maintenance and lubrication of equipment
Travel is required as needed for this position
Follow Company personnel and product safety requirements including standards such as those from SQF and internal GMPs
Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with State and Federal laws
All other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Must pass a color test
Must have basic computer skills. Able to input information into various company computer systems accurately
Possess better than average mechanical ability
Ability to handle automatic feeder, printing press, and hand tools
Must be able to inspect sheets for quality defects, which requires seeing a scratch or other defect in the printing and seeing a color deviation. Cannot be color blind.
This position is subject to overtime
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals using a metric scale. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch; and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
