Job Description

Land Surveyor $36-39 based on experience. Trial to Hire Hours: This is a full-time position. The typical hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, however the work schedule may vary depending upon the workflow of the office. Overtime as needed to include evenings, weekends and holidays. We have locations across the Chicagoland Area as well as across Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin. Our goal since 1988 is to partner with companies to make their project a success. We serve a diverse customer base, including concrete ready-mix, asphalt plants, mining, underground contractors, real-estate development including Commercial, Industrial and Residential projects, and more. We have the capacity to manage all facets of a project from zoning to design to construction. POSITION SUMMARY: Bluff City Materials has an opening for a self-motivated Surveyor who can work independently, is a team player and can manage multiple priorities. As a Surveyor you will provide oversight on various projects to include construction staking and as-builts, topography mapping property lines, control, etc. The candidate will need to be able to read construction plans and have a background in construction surveying. The candidate should have the ability to multitask (have the ability to perform a variety of duties that may often change and work within standards of accuracy). Have good oral and written communications skills and be able to work in construction field conditions. The position will be 90% in the field and 10% in the office. Microsoft Office and AutoCAD skills required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The position’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • CAD Design and drafting • Construction surveying and layout o Maintain grades for construction crews • Real Estate Development / Construction Projects o Construction staking – Grades, road, utility. o Track project quantities for pay estimate approvals o Topography and Volume estimates • Construction survey drawings o Construction Plans and as-builts o Topography maps o Volume estimates • Drone surveys

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience • Bachelor of Science (BS) Land Surveying or Associates in Land Surveying • Professional Land Surveyor is not required but would be considered a plus or the ability to become a PLS in the State of Illinois. • Strong computer and technical skills, creative/design performance skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Team player; ability to get along with a diverse group of people working towards a common goal. • Ability to work independently • Have excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities as required. • The preferred candidate will have knowledge of industrial and commercial construction and be familiar with the terminology of such an office. • Surveying background – GPS-Topcon System • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, this is not required but would be considered a plus. • Drone license a plus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, bend, climb and crawl to inspect equipment for long periods. This position requires the ability to lift or move or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. The work environment is usually dirty, dusty, and noisy, and is subject to inclement or extreme weather conditions. This position will require travel to various job sites (typically 1-2 hours from the office)
